NSF ANSI 359-2018 pdf free download – Valves for crosslinked polyethylene (PEX) water distribution tubing systems.
3.3 fitting: A piping component used to join, terminate, or provide changes of direction in a piping system.
3.4 plastic: A material that contains as an essential ingredient one or more organic polymeric substancesof large molecular weight, is solid in its finished state, and, at some stage in its manufacture or processinginto finished articles, can be shaped by flow.
3.5 potable water: Water that is acceptable for drinking, culinary, and domestic purposes and meets therequirements of the health authority having jurisdiction.
3.6 valve: A device used to regulate the flow of liquids or gasses.
3.7 virgin material: A material in the form of pellets, granules, powder, floc, or liquid that has not beensubjected to use or processing other than that required for its initial manufacture.
4Material requirements
4.1 Materials identified below and that meet the minimum requirements are acceptable for use in producingvalves which comply with the minimum requirements of this standard.
4.2 Valves shall be made of materials as specified in their respective applicable nationally recognizedstandards specification as mentioned in section 2 normative references.
4.3 Valves bodies made from copper alloys containing more than 15% zinc by weight and intended for usein potable water systems shall meet the Dezincification and Stress Corrosion Cracking Resistancerequirements of NSF/ANSI 14.
4.4 Plastic (non-metal) materials for valves
Materials for the valve body shall be produced from virgin plastics or clean rework materials.
The use of clean, rework material of the same formulation and physical properties from the samemanufacturer is acceptable provided the finished products meet the requirements of this standard. Materialsin the production of valves shall be manufactured in such a way as to prevent contamination.
