A SYNRA is a group address RA used by a GLK AP to forwand frumes to a subset of GLK non=AP STAs, as fequired by IEEE 802.1Q bridgos. The use of a SYNRA can improve bandwidth usage in some cases. SYNRAS are used in GLK AP tarissionse As deseribed in 4.3.27.2, when a GLK AP transmits a Duta frame with a fouraddress MAC header whose RA contains a group adress, the contents of the RA is a synthetic rceiver address (SYNRA), and therefore is RA and DA values will not be equal.
A GLK noo-AP STA supports selective reception of group adressed fames by supporig SYNRA reception. 4.3.27.2 Selective reception of group ddressed frames For the reasons given below, when tansmiting a data MPDU that has a group address RA to a set of receiving STAs, the GLK transmitter needs to transmit those MSDUs s0 that they ane acepted by a specified subset of the as8ociated GLK STAs indcated by the IEEE 802.1Q bridge. The reason for such sleetive reeption is to support requirements of IEEE 802. IQ bridgs and can include the MAC service requirements that, when an MSDU is sent. it is not subsequently rceived and processed by the tasmitting statio or to break lops in the ntork tplogy.
When a GLK STA asciated with a GLK AP sands an MSDU t0o that AP with a group address destination, tbe AP retransmits it and uses the selective receptio faility to stop the originating GLK STA from acepling it Also, since the AP Intermal Sublayer Service SAPs ane mapped 10o IEEE 802. IQ bridge ports, loop prevention might need the taffl to be blocked to one or more of the associated GLK STAs. Such blocking can be implemented by the sclxtive reeption fility. Implenentation of this slestive recption fcility in a BsS case includes use of a synthetice group address RA (SYNRA adresing, see 9.32.1.2). As a alemative to the us of a SYNRA, sletive reeption ineludes sending a copy of the Data frame to each interded reevere using individually adressed MPDUs. In either case, an appropriate address format is needed because the DA is ifferent fom the RA (sine the RA is either the SYNRA or a serial individual RA).
SYNRA adressed MPDUs are tansmited by APs only. All GLK DOD-AP STAs in a ifustucture BSS suppot receipt of SYNRAs (see 9.3.2.1.2 and 10.66). A GLK AP that is requested tw deliver an MPDU 10o muliple GLK STAs can choose 10o construct and transmit a SYNRA aresed MPDU, use a squence of urnicast MPDU, or both. Parumeters exchanged during the association (or reassociation) of a GLK STA with a GLK AP determine the mechanism used by the GLK AP to enable sletive reeptio at the GLK STA of group adressed frames transmitted by the GLK AP. One such mechanism is GLK-GCR, which is a subset of GCR customized for gttera links (900 1.24.16). In GLK -GCR the group adress is a SY NRA. Features of GCR that do not apply t0o GLK -GCR are as fllows
a) DMS Request and DMS Response frume exchange to set up GLK-GCR service
b) ADDBA RequsuResponse frame exchange 10 setup block ack geemet
c) GCR-SP delivery method
d) Unsolcited DMS Response frame for *GCR Adetise”
