3 Definitions
The following definitions shall apply in this Standard:
Accessory – a part capable of performing an independent function(s) and contributing to theoperations of the equipment that it serves.
Approved – acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction (AHJ).
Authority having jurisdiction (AHl) 一 the governmental body responsible for the enforcement of anypart of this Standard, or the official or agency designated by that body to exercise such a function.Automatic valve – an on/off valve for controlling the flow of gas, which is not manually operated.Canadian registration number (CRN)- a registration number, allotted by a provincial regulatory
authority, that allows the design of a boiler, pressure vessel, pressure gauge, or fitting to be used in theprovince.
Commercial motor vehicle – a:
a)Truck > 4 536 kg (10,000 lbs.) GVWR, GCWR, Gvw, GCw, whichever is greater;b)Van with > 8 passengers with compensation;
c)Bus with > 15 passengers regardless of compensation.
Container assembly — the fuel container and all directly connected appurtenances.
Container valve assembly一 the component (either automatic or manual valve) mounted onto a fuelcontainer used to control flow into and out of the container.
Conversion — the alteration of the fuel system of a completed vehicle that was originally built in
compliance with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations or Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standards.
Diesel gallon equivalent (DGE)— 2.89 kg (6.38 pounds) or 3.94 m3(139.16 SCF) of CNG has 100% ofthe energy content of one gallon of diesel.
Engineer — a person in the engineering profession with specific expertise in the pertinent subject area,as authorized by the relevant authority, where applicable.
Equipment – a device, other than an accessory or component, that is not necessary for the functioningof the vehicle fuel system but is connected to a piping or tubing system.
Failure modes and effects analysis (FMEA) – a recognized tool used by the automotive industry, usedto identify potential failure modes and their potential effects. Design FMEAs are typically used
throughout product development. Process FMEAs are typically used during the production process.Fill receptacle – a component designed to receive CNG from a fueling nozzle and retain CNG in thevehicle storage and delivery system.
Filter — a component that restricts or removes foreign debris from the gas stream.CNG fuel filters canbe specified to remove both solid and liquid containments cleaning (finishing) the natural gas beforeintroduction into the fuel management system.
Fitting – a connector used to join sections of pipe, tube, or hose.
Fuel delivery system – is a subset of the overall fuel system comprising all of the components thathandle and transfer natural gas to and from the storage system along with support structure anddevices.
Fuel storage system 一 is a subset of the overall fuel system comprising all of the assembledcomponents that isolate high pressure natural gas from the remainder of the fuel system and theenvironment.
Fuel system – a unit consisting of the fuel storage system and fuel delivery system.
Fuel system integrator (FSI) – a business entity engaged in the design, manufacture, assembly, installation, and/or sale of complete or nearly complete natural gas fuel system assemblies.
Gasoline gallon equivalent (GGE)一 is based on 2.57kg (5.66 pounds) or 3.50 m3(123.58 SCF) of CNGhas 100% of the energy of one gallon of gasoline.
Hose – a flexible fuel line.
Installer – a person or company that alters or completes the fuel system of a completed or incompletevehicle that was originally built in compliance with Canadian Motor Vehicle Safety Regulations or U.S.Federal Motor vehicle Safety Standards (FMVSS) by installing any portion of a natural gas fuel system.Mounting system 一 all hardware necessary for installation of the CNG container on or in a vehicle.Ncce (normal cubic centimeter)— dry gas that occupies a volume of 1 cm3 at a temperature of 273.15K(o C) and an absolute pressure of 101.325 kPa (1 atm).CSA ANSI NGV 6.1 pdf download.
