ANSI INCITS 381-2019 pdf free download – Information Technology – Finger Image Based Data Interchange Format.
This standard specifies a data record interchange format for storing, recording, and transmitting the informationfrom one or more finger or palm image areas. This standard can be used for the exchange and comparison offinger image data.It defines the content, format, and units of measurement for the exchange of finger image datathat may be used in the verification or identification process of a subject. The information consists of a variety ofmandatory and optional items, including scanning parameters, compressed or uncompressed images and vendor-specific information. This information is intended for interchange among organizations that rely on automateddevices and systems for identification or verification purposes based on the information from finger image areas.Information compiled and formatted in accordance with this standard can be recorded on machine-readablemedia or may be transmitted by data communication facilities.
2Conformance
A system conforms to this standard for producing data interchange records if it satisfies the mandatory andimplemented optional requirements herein for encoding and decoding finger image data and the associatedparameter data as specified by Clauses 6 through 8. A system conforms to this standard for using datainterchange records if it can parse data interchange records that conform to Clause 8. A data record conforms tothis standard if it satisfies the mandatory, and optional, if implemented, requirements for structure and content asspecified in Clause 8.
3Normative references
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of thisAmerican National Standard. At the time of publication, the editions indicated were valid. All standards are subjectto revision, and parties to agreements based on this American National Standard are encouraged to investigatethe possibility of applying the most recent editions of the standards indicated below.

4Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.4.1 biometric sample
analog or digital representation of biometric characteristics prior to biometric feature extraction process andobtained from a biometric capture device or biometric capture subsystem
4.2 capture
the process of taking a biometric sample from a subject4.3 core
the core is the topmost point on the innermost recurving ridgeline of a fingerprint.Generally, the core is placedupon or within the innermost recurve of a loop
4.4 fingerprint image area
the area of friction skin on the fleshy surface of a finger located horizontally between the two edges of thefingernail and vertically between the first joint and the tip of a finger.lt contains a unique pattern of friction ridgeand valley information commonly referred to as a”fingerprint”.
4.5 friction ridge
the ridges present on the skin of the fingers and toes, the palms, and soles of the feet, which makes contact withan incident surface under normal touch. On the fingers, the unique patterns formed by the friction ridges make upfingerprints.
4.6 grayscale
the method used to represent a continuous tone image that has only a single component or variable to representeach pixel; also referred to as monochrome or black and white.
4.7 image resolution
the number of pixels per unit distance in the interchanged image
NOTE -This may be the result of processing a captured image. The original captured scanned image may have beensubsampled. scaled, interpolated downward, or otherwise processed to produce a form for representing the ridge and valleystructure areas of the fingerprint.
4.8 live capture
the process of capturing a biometric sample through an interaction between a subject and a biometric system.ANSI INCITS 381 pdf download.
