ANSI B71.10-2018 pdf free download – Off-Road Ground-Supported Outdoor Power Equipment – Gasoline Fuel Systems – Performance Specifications and Test Procedures
This standard describes safety specifications and test procedures applicable to the gasoline fuel systems forof-road ground-supported outdoor power equipment with spark ignition engines of less than one literdisplacement.Off-road ground-supported outdoor power equipment for which this standard may apply includewalk-behind and riding lawn-mowers, snow throwers, powered log-splitters, shredders/grinders and tillers. Theeffective implementation date of this standard shall be two (2) years after the publication date and shall applyto all products built after that date.Manufacturers may also comply with the requirements of this standardanytime after the publication date.
NOTE – The tests described in this standard involve the use of hazardous materials, operations, and equipment. Thisstandard does not purport to address all of the safety problems associated with its use.lt is the responsibility of the user ofthis standard to establish appropriate safety and health practices and determine the applicability of regulatory limitationsprior to use.
2. Normative References
The following standards contain provisions which, through reference in this text, constitute provisions of thisAmerican National Standard. All standards are subject to revision, and parties to agreements based on thisAmerican National Standard are encouraged to investigate the possibility of applying the most recent editionsof the standards indicated below. Where a revision date is noted, the specified revision shall be used.

3. Terms and Definitions
For the purposes of this document, the following terms and definitions apply.
3.1.Active Leakage
The presence of any re-formed bubbles and/or bubbles rising to the water’s surface during the required testtime of Table 1 during the test duration described in 5.1.1.
3.2.Class l, Group D Materials
Gases, vapors, or liquids that are explosive or pose a threat as ignitable mixtures as defined in NFPA497-2004 and NFPA 70-2011.
3.3. Design
A design includes all specifications, including but not limited to the dimensions, materials, tolerances, production process, tooling, and documentation.
3.4.Good Engineering Judgment
Judgements made consistent with generally accepted scientific and engineering principles and all availablerelevant information.
3.5.Fuel
3.5.1.Fresh Fuel
Regular, unleaded gasoline purchased within three (3) months of the beginning of the test. Fuel containingup to 10% ethanol and additives, such as gasoline typically purchased at a gas station, may be consideredfresh fuel.
3.5.2.E10 Fuel
Fresh fuel with 10%±1% by volume ethanol.
NOTE- The brand, grade, ethanol content (if known / applicable), purchase location, and purchase date of fuel shouldbe recorded to ensure fresh fuel and that specifications are maintained.
3.6.Fuel Shut-off Valve
A fuel shut-off valve is a component intended to control the flow of liquid fuel from the tank. Fuel shut-offvalves may be in-line, integrated into a fuel tank or a carburetor. For the purpose of this standard, fuelselector switches are considered fuel shut-off valves.
3.7.Fuel System
For the purposes of this standard, the fuel system includes the fuel tank assembly, fuel lines (tubing orhoses), fuel filters, fuel shut-off valves, and any other component containing liquid fuel. lt does not includecarburetors, fuel injection components and fuel pumps, but does include the fuel line connections to thesecomponents.
3.8.Fuel Tank
A storage vessel constructed of any material that is an integral part of the product that is used to supply fuelto engines regulated by EPA 40 CFR Parts 1054 and 1060. This is distinct from separate fuel storagevessels used for refuelling and not a part of the product (e.g., portable refueling containers).
3.9. Fuel Tank Assembly
A fuel tank that includes separately assembled components directly mounted to the fuel tank, including, butnot limited to the fuel cap, grommets and seals, gauges, in-tank fuel pumps, vents and valves.ANSI B71.10 pdf download.
