ANSI ASA S3.7-2016 pdf free download – Method for Measurement and Calibration of Earphones.
The electroacoustic test methods described in this standard are primarily for use with circumaural (over- the-ear), supra-aural (against-the-ear) and insert (ear-canal) type earphones, but may be applied to other types as well. Although these methods are generally applicable to earphones for all uses, the most common application of these methods are for earphones intended for hearing aids and audiometric testing and for receivers or other electroacoustic transducers intended for use in an earphone. In all cases, connection to the device under test is analog electrical; Digital, USB, or wireless systems are not considered. For additional requirements and tests for earphones for consumer audio applications, reference is made to IEC 60268-7.

3 Terms and definitions
For the purpose of this document, the following definitions apply:
3.1 coupler.
Cavity of specified shape and volume, in conjunction with a calibrated microphone adapted to measure the sound pressure developed in the cavity, used for the measurement and calibration of earphones.
NOTE Couplers for earphone and receiver measurements are specified in ANSI/ASA S3.55-2014/Part 1/IEC 60318-1:2009, ANSI/ASA S3.55-2015/Part 3/IEC 60318-3:2014, and ANSI/ASA S3.55-2014/Part 5/IEC 60318-5:2006.
3.2 circumaural earphone.
Earphone which encloses the pinna and rests on the surrounding surface of the head.
NOTE Contact with the head is normally maintained by compliant cushions. Circumaural earphones may touch but should not significantly compress the pinna.
3.3 earphone.
An electroacoustic system, including the transducer and housing, intended to be closely coupled to the ear.
3.4 ear simulator/occluded ear simulator.
Device which approximates the acoustic transfer impedance of the inner part of the human ear canal, from
the tip of an earmold to the eardrum.
NOTE Occluded ear simulators are specified in ANSI/ASA S3.25-2012.
3.5 input-output characteristic.
A single frequency plot of the earphone output level on the ordinate as a function of input level on the
abscissa, with equal decibel scale divisions on each axis.
3.6 insert earphone.
An earphone coupled by a tube and/or earmold with the output tip inside the ear canal.
3.7 intra-concha earphone.
Earphone designed to rest in the concha.ANSI ASA S3.7 pdf download.
