3 Definitions
The following definitions shall apply in this Standard:
Accessory – a part capable of performing an independent function(s) and contributing to theoperations of the equipment that it serves.
Approved – acceptable to the authority having jurisdiction.
Authority having jurisdiction (AHl) 一 the organization, office, or individual responsible for approvingequipment, an installation, or a procedure.
Breakaway device – a component installed at the transition from rigid piping to flexible hose, ordownstream thereof, to protect the dispenser assembly from damage by vehicles driving away whilestill connected to the dispenser fuelling nozzle.
One-time-use device – a device that must be replaced after it has been used for its intendedpurpose.
Reusable device — a device that can be reused after use for its intended purpose by reassemblyand applicable replacement of parts (if applicable).
Certified —(with respect to any accessory, component, equipment, or manufacturer’s installationinstructions) investigated and identified by a nationally recognized testing agency as conforming torecognized standards, requirements, or accepted test reports.
Connector — a fitting on the end of a hose used to connect the hose to rigid piping or tubing.
Dispenser (LNG dispenser)- a device intended to transfer liquefied natural gas to a vehicle LNG fueltank.
Fitting – a joint component of a piping or tubing system such as an elbow, tee, union, bushing, coupling, cross, or nipple, but not including such functioning items as a valve or pressure regulator.Hose – a flexible conduit of either corrugated metal or composite material.
Metallic hose — an all-metallic flexible gas conduit.
Hose assembly — a hose with end fittings attached, complete with braid and/or other covering.Hose breakaway device – see Breakaway device.
Hydrostatic strength test — the hydraulic pressure to which pressure components, equipment, orsystems are subjected to in order to prove structural integrity.
Listed -equipment or materials included in a list published by an organization acceptable to the
authority having jurisdiction and concerned with product evaluation that maintains periodic inspectionof production of listed equipment or materials and whose listing states either that the equipment ormaterials meet appropriate standards or have been tested and found suitable for use in a specifiedmanner.
Manufacturer — the person or organization responsible for the design, fabrication, and testing ofequipment and components.
Pressure –
Burst pressure — pressure that causes structural failure of the component and consequential fluidloss through the component envelope, not including gaskets or seals. The highest pressure during aburst test.
Fill pressure – the pressure attained at the actual time of filling.Fill pressure varies with changingparameters including flow rate and LNG temperature in the fuel tank.
Maximum operating pressure — the highest pressure at which the system, or the specified part ofa system, normally operates.
Maximum working pressure — the maximum pressure to which a component or system is designedto be subjected when handling the specified fluid through the temperature range.
Operating pressure — the pressure at which the system, or the specified part of a system, normallyoperates.
Test pressure — the pressure applied to which a component or equipment is taken during testing.Note: Pressure is expressed as psi,Po, kPa, or bar.
Service temperature range – the temperature range the component or equipment will be subjected toin normal service.
Type – a group with the same construction, materials geometry, or classification
Valve – a device by which the flow of a fluid can be started, stopped, or regulated, by a movable partthat opens or obstructs a passage.
Automatic ― a self-actuated or remotely actuated device consisting essentially of a valve andoperator.
Check – a valve that allows gas or liquid to flow in only one direction.
Safety shut-off – a valve designed for and capable of positive closure to isolate fuel flow.
4 General safety strategy
4.1
The manufacturer shall verify that
a)all reasonably foreseeable hazards, hazardous situations, and events throughout the anticipated equipment lifetime have been identified;CSA ANSI LNG 4.4 pdf download.
