4.3 Use scenario between servers
A detailed use scenario between servers is depicted in Figure 3 with the following activities and associated information flows:
– A3: An application ontology repository requests to subscribe to a dictionary item stored in a common ontology repository or another application ontology repository to obtain an update of the content stored in the latter repository when a new instance is registered in the latter repository.
– A4: An application ontology repository that subscribes to a dictionary item stored in the common ontology repository obtains an update of the content on a regular, specified time-span basis or on an event-driven basis, i.e., when a new instance is registered in the latter repository. Ontology repository servers can make a cascade connection to deliver the content from an upstream server to a downstream server.
5 Parcel web service specification5.1General
This document specifies the followingthree basic web services,upon which moresophisticated or advanced user applications can be built:
parcel registration service (see 5.4);
parcel resolution service (see 5.5);
parcel subscription service (see 5.6).
Like other web services in general,each basic web service specified in this document alsohas means for handling requests, responses and exceptions.
A request is a message which is sent from a parcel client to a parcel server. The messagemay contain one or more parameters,each of which is used for executing a service on aparcel server.
A response is a message which is sent from a parcel server to a parcel client as a result ofexecuting a service.The message may contain the result of the inquiry from a parcel client.
An exception is an unexpected event which occurs during the executing of a parcel webservice. lf such an event occurs on a parcel server,and if information about the event ishelpful or meaningful for a parcel client, then an exceptional message will be thrown from the
parcel server to the parcel client. This allows a parcel client to continue its flow of functionswhen a service fails. If an exception occurs during the processing of a function which a parcel
client requests to execute,the execution will be terminated and the parcel server will throwthe exception to the parcel client.
For a machine-readable description of web services,WADL (Web Application DescriptionLanguage)[6] and wSDL (Web Service Description Language)[7] are widely used.A WADLdescription for the services specified in Clause 5 is provided in Annex B,Clause B.1, while awsDL description for them is provided in Clause B.2.
5.2Exception
5.2.1General
As mentioned in 5.1, an exception is an unexpected event which occurs during the executingof a parcel web service.
This document specifies the following types of exceptions for an unexpected event:
– Standard-defined exception;
– User-defined exception.
“Standard-defined exception” is the super type of exception which is defined in this document.The specification of those exceptions is provided in 5.2.3.
“User-defined exception” is the super type of exception to be used for defining exceptions which are defined in user applications for a specific purpose. For a parcel web service between parcel servers or between a parcel server and a parcel client, the use of a user-defined exception is allowed, but it is possible that it will not be handled by a receiver of such an exception. In other words, such an exception may be recognized by a receiver simply as text information.IEC 62656-8 pdf download.
